Birkenstocks, Birks, Comfort, Fashion, German, Sandals, Shoes, Style

I’ve been wearing Birkenstocks for a couple years. In the 90’s, I fell in love with them at a church retreat when I tried on my cousin’s pair. They were so comfortable!

Fast forward almost 1.5 DECADES ( ! ) and I finally get a pair. My black single straps, the Madrid. You have no idea how much slack I got from my girlfriends for wearing these (and my FitFlops but that’s another story to tell haha). But now I have the last laugh because all the style mavens are sporting Birks and they’re coming back!

A few months ago, I bought some oiled blue leather Gizeh’s and have to break those puppies in. If you’ve never owned a pair, they may feel uncomfortable at first. But they are wondrous for your feet after they soften up and mold to your feet. And this girl, right here, is about comfort AND chicness. Plus, they’re German. Love anything German engineered and crafted.

The newest to the collection are my silver and white Arizonas. These are what typically come to mind when people think of Birks but how cute are they? They also come in gold, which I’m tempted to get. I plan to wear them with a summer dress and a jean jacket. Or my newly acquired boyfriend jeans from Zara.

Wish I could wear them to work!

Here is my weekly selfie on Thursdays. Today’s inspiration came from the 2nd Hunger Games movie “Catching Fire.” (Sometimes, I like to dress in theme.) I watched it last night and thought it was really good. I cried, I laughed, I gasped at the scary parts. Haha. I love that Katniss Everdeen is a heroine that girls can look up to. And Jennifer Lawrence is pretty bad ass. She keeps it real and hasn’t succumb to the typical Hollywood actress body image issue.

Anywho, I love wearing the side braid and wear it often – especially when working out. The shirt dress has gold buttons so I added a rectangular gold locket to complete the look with my leggings and Frye boots. It was actually quite warm in the DC area and I was burning up in my boots today!

Hello pretties! It’s been awhile since my last post but last week, I took a trip to Dominican Republic to make like geese and head south for the winter – albeit temporarily. It was a beautiful trip. The water was warm and I discovered my new favorite beach at Sanoa Island. This was where Johnny Depp’s character in Pirates of the Caribbean was stranded in the middle of the sea. The waves were minuscule and I was literally rolling around in them without drowning. (Those pictures came out horribly and thus aren’t being posted :))

The resort was right on the water and we were able to get premium liquor so the BF was happy to say the least. I got horrible bites from sand fleas(?) all over my lower legs and they killed. Lol. The food was asi-asi or so-so. Nothing to write home about. The meats were dry and I found myself eating a lot of carbs. They had a Dominican night and that was good. There was an amazing soup, goat stew and roast pig or lechon. Delish! I’m pleased to say we had a very relaxing vacation.

Almost every night, we had dinner reservations on the resort and had to dress “formally” to dinner. See below for my outfits for three nights. I mixed up prints, went all black with red lips and threw in some street style with a bralette, joggers and a dark lippy.

On every trip, souvenir shopping is on the agenda for my loved ones but I almost always get a Christmas ornament and/or a piece of jewelry. I’m really mad at myself for not getting an ornament this time but the pickings were extremely slim. However, I did manage to buy this beaute.

20131127-112247.jpgMy favorite animal is the sea turtle; Green, Leatherback, Loggerhead – I love them all. This piece is also special because of the stone: Larimar. It’s only found in Dominican Republic. The stone was coined after the namer’s daughter Larissa and the Spanish word for sea, Mar. It’s said to have healing powers; especially to help communication skills if it’s worn close to the throat. I don’t know about you but I love that kind of stuff.

Hope you enjoyed reading about my vacation! I was hoping to have a really jazzed up post but my week has been insane with work and prepping for Thanksgiving. I’m starting my pies tonight to alleviate tomorrow’s work. Hope you all have a great Thanksgiving!

On a whim, one of my besties and I decided to enjoy Pennsylvania’s taxless clothing shopping at the King of Prussia mall. It is a huge mall but with pretty much all the stores we have in the DC area. I did find an item to add to my wish list – a pair of Tom Ford sunglasses that I can’t afford at the moment. Haha. But they’re so much fun! See below and don’t mind the hanging price tag 🙂

I decided on being comfortable but to also wear my Frye boots to break them in. For my pants, I just wore my UnderArmour leggings. Definitely one of my favorite clothing items. On top, I wore a loose knit sweater from Forever 21. Makeup – Makeup Forever waterproof eyeliner and MAC lipstick in Media.

20131110-220426.jpgAfter a long day of shopping and driving, we went to indulge ourselves at Geno’s with some cheesesteaks (with Whiz and wit onions, of course)

On Thursdays, I usually post a bathroom selfie on Instagram of what I’m wearing to work that day. This tradition started because there are an unusual number of bathroom stalls; which makes for good perspective. A fair warning, however, I don’t have a constantly new wardrobe by season. I tend to buy pieces that are classic and I will wear for awhile, especially for work. For play, on the other hand…

My usual uniform for work is a dress with a blazer. Or a pencil skirt and blouse. But because I am avoiding heels at the moment, I’m wearing flats. Why am I avoiding heels at the moment? Well a couple of weeks ago, I played in my 2nd golf tournament and always tend to forget my favorite tee (yes, I’m weird but my mom gave it to me) after driving the ball. I ran back to last hole and slightly twisted my ankle. Golf shoes do not equal running shoes.

Okay, back to THIS post. Haha. This is my OOTD (Outfit of the Day). Black ankle pants from Ann Taylor recently. Pink flats. Pink silk blouse. Black pinstripe vest.
